Brewer of the Month

I'm pleased to announce Haleigh and Ezra Prescher of Under Prescher Brewing as the December 2017 dp Brewer's of the Month!  I've know Ezra for about 20 years and Haleigh for about 10.  They are a great example of how a married couple can enjoy this great hobby together.

Here are some basic items (fermentors) used in a common 5 gallon setup.  Under Prescher Brewing has used these fermentors for many batches of great beer.  Keep them clean after each batch and they will last many years.

The Prescher's brew extract beers and do it well.  Extract brews are a great way to get started and can be very rewarding.  Many people brew extracts and see no reason to go to all grain.   I see these two upgrading at some point, as you will see from Haleigh's own words below.

December 2017

"When Ezra and I first met, you couldn’t get me to drink anything but Miller Lite.  I hated wine and I definitely didn’t like craft beer.  Fast forward a year (2011) and I started going to wineries and found a new love for Wine and Craft beer. We would go on several wine and brewery trips a year and it just escalated from there.  We ended up liking wine so much that we decided it didn’t look hard, we should try and make our own and our first attempt didn’t go so well.  In fact, it got nicknamed Maggot Wine, because the blackberries were infested with maggots and we had no clue until it started to ferment. We realized wine making just might not be in the cards for us.

So obviously, our next route was to make beer. In 2014, we ordered our beer making kit and tried it out. We were surprised at how much easier it was than wine and the end product turned out really good. We continued to bottle the beer for awhile until I found a really good deal on Craigslist for a Kegerator. There is something truly special and rewarding about being able to pour your own brew at the end of a long day.

We continue to brew Extract for the time being and once things get settled (just found out we are expecting our first child, so no beer for this girl) we plan on upgrading our set up to an all-electric system similar to Dave’s. Dave has been a great mentor and we will definitely be leaning on his advice and support once we do go All-Grain. We really love the beer community and frequent the Kansas City scene often.  In fact, anytime a new brewery opens you can bet we will be there to check it out."  - Haleigh

I'm pleased to announce two of my great friends Haleigh and Ezra as my last Brewer's of the Month for 2017!  Congratulations and I look forward to what 2018 will bring you in brewing and soon to be expanded family.
